How do I prepare for and then care for a new tattoo?

Before You Get Your New Tattoo…

Make sure you have eaten beforehand and bring a drink and snack with you and also photographic id.

Wear comfortable clothing and consider where you’re getting your tattoo and wear clothes you don’t mind possibly getting stained.

Do not consume any alcohol or drugs the day or night before you get a tattoo. Nor energy drinks or too much coffee before or during your tattoo.

If you are particularly hairy, it’s a good idea to shave area getting tattooed that morning to save time – shave with the hair not against it.

Ladies it is advisable not to get tattooed if you are premenstrual or are menstruating as this may increase your pain levels and add to your discomfort.

Please be on time (text or phone ahead if running late), smell nice and do not bring anyone with you (no waiting area atm) and no children.

After you get a new tattoo…

Healing Instructions.

You will be given a leaflet to take home with you after you have had your tattoo.  If you have any questions after getting your new tattoo feel free to contact your artist.

Plastic covering should stay for at least 1-2 hours.

When you get home remove plastic bandage, rinse gently with COLD water and a little soap only to remove blood and fluids. Pat dry only.

Apply a thin layer of Bepanthen or Vegan aftercare (both available from the studio) several times a day, make sure your hands are clean first. Use cream when itchy and dry. Do not use too much at one time.

Keep tattoo fresh and open to the air. Do not re-bandage.  (the only exception we recommend is for large work before you go to bed so don’t have to remove from sheets when you wake up, repeat step 2. Only for the first night)

AVOID direct sun, salt water, spas, chlorine and baths till completely healed. (approx 2-3 weeks)

DO NOT pick or scratch scabs…ink will come out if you do.

DO NOT let other people touch your new tattoo.

Foot tattoos – no covered shoes for a week!

Apply 30+ sun block to prevent your tattoo fading.
